The Telegraph describes knitting as ‘the ultimate stress-buster: a therapeutic meditative act with a creative underlay.’ it’s also incredibly cool!

Want to learn how to be chilled and super cool in a cozy environment? Come and spend the day in this stunning riverside location with a small group of likeminded folk and learn the basics of knitting from textile graduate, professional practicing artist and experienced tutor, Julia Douglas.

You will also enjoy a delicious lunch of home cooked heaven, cooked on the premises by the talented chefs of the Waterside.

Your day:

10.00am

Arrive and be greeted with a steaming mug of specialty tea/coffee or soft drink of your choice plus a small group of friendly faces (maximum 8 per group), your potential new friends.

An informal chat will follow and Julia will share a little of her wisdom about the theory behind knitting including the different yarn types and how to distinguish them, what a pattern means by ‘tension’ and how to knit a tension square. She will get your creative juices flowing by showing you some examples of what you can work towards achieving once you have the basics down pat. There may even be the chance to get a little tangled in some luxurious wool!

You will then begin to learn the basics of knitting, including casting on, knit and purl stitches and ribbing by working on a simple project.

12.00pm – 1.00pm

Your fresh, locally sourced, delicious lunch will be served consisting of a mug of soup and a sandwich of your choice.

Please let us know in advance if you have any specific dietary requirements.

1.00pm – 3.00pm

You will crack on with your project, learning how to make a buttonhole and, of course, how to cast off! By the end of the class you should have a finished knitted item to take home and the confidence to pick up your needles in your own time to continue to develop your newfound creative relaxation.
